Call to secure former factory after trouble

A former Lurgan factory needs to be secured due to a spike in anti-social behaviour, according to Deputy Mayor of Craigavon, Colin McCusker.

The Lurgan Ulster Unionist said the former Bairds Factory site at the Tandragee Road, which is currently up for sale, has become a haven for underage drinking and drugs.

“It has been brought to my attention by locals living in the area that young people are gathering in this site engaging in underage drinking, with some people suspecting that drugs are also being taken,” said the Councillor. “At the recent Inter agency meeting in Mourneview anti social behaviour was raised with me and I have taken this up with the police.”

Local party activist and Mourneview resident, Aaron Carson said: “This site is open to all and no effort has been made to secure it. Surely there must be a health and safety issue, with young people entering the site. Something needs to be done before someone is seriously hurt.”
