Cannabis located after speeding motorist stopped by PSNI in Newtownabbey

Police say a driver is set to be “dealt with for speeding and possession of a Class B controlled drug” after they were stopped by officers in the Mayfield Link area of Mallusk earlier this week.

The motorist was detected on Monday, June 22 when officers from Newtownabbey Neighbourhood Policing team were conducting speed checks in the region.

Commenting on the incident, a PSNI spokesperson said: “This stretch of road is 40mph. One vehicle was detected travelling at 53mph.

“On speaking with the driver, police noticed that the vehicle smelt of cannabis. The vehicle and its occupants were subsequently searched and a small quantity of cannabis was seized.

“This driver will be dealt with for both the speeding offence and possession of a Class B controlled drug.”
