Car burnt out and second vehicle damaged in early morning Larne incident

A vehicle was destroyed and another one was damaged in an early hours blaze in Larne today (Thursday).

The incident in the Cairngorm Walk/Runkerry Gardens area of the Co Antrim town was reported shortly after 5.00am.

Appealing for information, a PSNI spokesperson said: “It was reported that at around 5.30am, a black Peugeot 207 was on fire in the area. The vehicle was completely destroyed and scorch damage was also caused to another vehicle parked nearby.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. If you have any information or dashcam footage that may assist in the investigation, please contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 146 29/10/20.”

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said firefighters from Larne attended the scene of a car on fire.

A NIFRS spokesperson added: “They used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. The incident was dealt with by 5.30am and the cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate ignition.”
