Car windscreen was smashed beyond repair Court is told

A man from County Donegal, who admitted smashing the windscreen and a side window of his brother’s car, has appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court.

James McClean (43), whose address was given as Meenagowna, Burtonport, faces charges of possession an iron bar and criminal damage.

The Deputy District Judge hearing the case was told that the charges relates to an incident in the Carnhill area of the Cityside, on July 15.

The Magistrates Court heard that the windscreen as well as the driver’s side window of the car was ‘smashed beyond repair’ in the attack.

In Court it was also revealed that the car in fact belonged to the 43-year-old accused man’s brother and sister-in-law.

On hearing the prelinimary facts, Deputy District Judge Sean O’Hare, admitted McClean to be released on his own bail of £500 provided he resided at a specific property on Greenhaw Terrace.

As part of his bail conditions he is banned from contacting the injured parties and from entering Carnhill.

Deputy District Judge O’Hare adjourned sentencing so that a pre-sentence report could be compiled.

McClean will appear in court again on August 22. He was advised to save money to pay for the damage caused.
