Steven McClintock, 25, from Rocavan Meadow in Broughshane, is accused of assaulting the man who owns the house on Carniny Road, Ballymena.

He was hit on the head with a metal object during the burglary which took place in the early hours of Thursday.

Mr McClintock, who was also charged with burglary, was remanded in custody.

The court heard the accused stole an Audi car worth £9,000, a laptop computer, a mobile phone and house keys from the property.

He also had a metal bar in his possession.

The homeowner needed hospital treatment for the head injury he sustained during the break-in.

McClintock, unemployed, did not make an application for bail.

He is due to return to court next month.

Two other men aged 20 and 28 who were arrested over the burglary have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
