Charged reduced to careless driving

Kenneth George Doolan, of The Poplars, Donaghcloney, was fined £250 and given six penalty points for careless driving on December 21 last year.

A public prosecutor said they would claim the defendant made a dangerous manoeuvre when he performed a ‘U’ turn on the Artabrackagh Road, Portadown.

There was a vehicle driving behind and it had no option but to collide with the defendant’s vehicle.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said it was an error of judgement on the part of the defendant and convicted him of careless driving and not dangerous driving.

A barrister for Doolan said it was certainly an error of judgement and that the defendant had suffered serious injury.
