“An attempted burglary was also reported to have occurred at a property in the area, but nothing is believed to have been taken.

“Enquiries are continuing and police are investigating a potential link between these incidents and two reports of attempted burglaries which occurred in the Glebe Road area of Newtownabbey at around 4.50am.

“I would take this opportunity to remind local people to take extra care to keep homes and belongings safe. If you have older relatives or neighbours help them to keep their property and belongings secure.

“I would also ask anyone noticing any suspicious activity to report it to police immediately.

“We would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 330 02/12/20.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100 per cent anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.

“You can also submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/”
