Coleraine man fined for Mephadrone possession

A COLERAINE man, who was caught with Mephadrone, worth an estimated £15, in a Portrush night club has been fined £250 for being in possession of the Class B drug and a further £100 for obstructing police.

Aaron John Connor (21) of St John’s Place. appeared at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday following the incident on November 12 last year.

The court heard door staff observed the defendant with a bag of white powder in the smoking area of the venue.

When Connor saw them watching him he dropped the bag. Staff phoned the police and he was subsequently arrested.

The defendant though gave officers false details when they asked him who he was. On his way to Coleraine Police Station he admitted to officers he had given the details of his sister’s boyfriend.

The defence said Connor had the man’s identification on him and foolishly told officers that’s who he was when they first asked him.

In fining the defendant District Judge Richard Wilson told him to behave himself in future.

“I don’t want to see you back before me again,” said Judge Wilson.
