Commotion at the Corner House site

ANTISOCIAL behaviour at the Corner House in Aghacommon is proving a headache for residents.

One local man told how his family are regularly awoken by unruly youths and on one occasion he saw one of the teenagers standing naked in the road.

It’s understood one man was arrested after disturbances in the area in the early hours of Monday morning.

He told the ‘MAIL’: “It’s happening every second or third night. They’re gathering out the back of the Corner House and making a racket. Some of them are even getting taxis out here. There’s nights there can be up to 12 of them.”

The Corner House has been closed since last year although the site is still open and tables and chairs have been left at the back of the building.

The resident said: “They’re sitting on the chairs out the back and drinking, then they’ll start singing and shouting and smashing bottles in the road. One night I looked out and saw one of the fellas stark naked in the road.”

He added: “Last night (Sunday) after the football (Republic of Ireland vs Croatia) police came out to talk to them because of the racket they were making.

“They went away, but 40 minutes later they were back and just as loud.”

The resident added: “This antisocial behaviour is happening in the early hours of the morning and it’s wakening my whole family.

“I think the police need to do more about it and the person who owns the Corner House should close the place off properly.”

Police confirmed they have charged a 22 year old man with disorderly behaviour, resisting police and obstructing police.

It’s believed the charges relate to a disturbance in the Derrymacash Road area in the early hours of Monday morning.

The man is due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 6.
