Cookstown’s bus depot office closes permanently

COOKSTOWN’S only bus depot office closed it’s doors for the last time on Monday with fears that a further down scale in depot services could progress.

Local councillors have hit back at the move, and lambasted Translink for treating Cookstown’s citizen’s as “second class”.

The MAIL revealed in May that the closure was to happen, despite representation from local councillors to the Transport Minister and bus chiefs.

Just three weeks ago Cookstown Council sent a last minute plea to the Chief Executive of Translink to reconsider the move, but council never received a reply.

Sinn Fein councillor John McNamee, who first raised the matter with Translink following concern from local residents over parcel services last year, said he and his party would continue to fight to keep bus services in Cookstown.

Councillor McNamee said: “They had already made their decision and now it’s done but we will continue to fight to keep services here in Cookstown.

“It is very disappointing. We seen it coming and now it has happened.”

Customers wishing to use parcel services or other depot services will now be forced to travel to Dungannon or Magherafelt.
