Court: Suspended jail sentence

A man who was abusive to police received a three-month jail sentence, suspended for two years when he appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court.

John George Kennedy Reid (45), of Waterloo Street, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on April 1. Police were called to Quayside because a drunk male was acting suspiciously in the car park. He became verbally abusive and shouted loudly about a high profile murder in the city and alleged police of inaction in the case. He shouted “F*** off you c***.”

A defence solicitor told the court Reid had a chronic alcohol problem and mental health issues.

He said the 45-year-old has finally sought help for his addiction.
