Craigavon police hunt for armed and masked man after attempted hijacking

Police are hunting for a masked and possibly armed man after an attempted hijacking near Lurgan in the early hours of this morning.

A lorry driver was travelling close to Pinebank when a masked man emerged from the side of the road.

The driver continued to driving despite the masked man having raised his arms and pointing what appeared to be a firearm.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Around 3.25am this morning, 10 September, a white Volvo articulated lorry was driving towards the roundabout close to Pinebank when a masked man emerged from the side of the road.

“The man was wearing a balaclava and dark clothes.

“He raised his arms and pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the lorry.

“The lorry did not stop and continued on its journey.

“The male is described as being around 5ft 8in tall and of slim build,” said the PSNI spokesperson.

Chief Inspector Davy Beck said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has any information in relation to this incident. We can be contacted in Lurgan on 101, quoting ref: 76 100915.
