Crime latest: Coloured tablets found at Killowen flats

Police in Coleraine have warned of the dangers of illegal drugs after a member of the public reported finding five bags of five or six yellow coloured tablets in the Killowen area of Coleraine on Saturday morning.

Inspector Ian Armour said: “The person saw the tablets in an entrance to a block of flats. They went indoors to make a report to police only for the five bags to have been removed before the arrival of officers.

“I want to raise awareness of the dangers of using illegal drugs and remind people that you never know the toxicity, strength of chemical make-up of any illegal drug.

“It is also frightening to think that drugs were either stashed or dropped in a public place. The person who left those drugs in an entrance showed no regard for our community.

“The drug could have been lifted by children or any vulnerable person. I would encourage anyone who may have come across these drugs to hand them into police or dispose of them immediately.

“I also hope that people continue to work with police as we try to curb the harm posed by illegal drugs. Please call us on the non-emergency 101 number if you have any information about the use or supply of illegal drugs in your communities. Or you can contact us via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
