Currynierin shooting is condemned

Two men forced their way into the house and shot the occupant several times in the legs at around 11pm on Thursday.

Councillor Sean Mooney said: “Another shooting incident occurred, this time at Currynierin in which a man was seriously injured. There can be no justification for these shootings.

"It is clear that those responsible have no concern for the residents living in Currynierin nor do they represent the interests of those who live and reside in this community.

"Our thoughts should be with the victim and his immediate family and if anyone has any information on this attack they should bring it to the attention of the police.”

Police last night attended the scene of the shooting at the house in the Whitethorn Drive area.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11pm, it was reported that two men forced their way inside a house and shot a male occupant a number of times in his legs. The man is currently receiving medical treatment for his wounds.

An investigation is under way and anyone with any information which could assist with police enquiries is asked to contact officers at Strand Road on 101 quoting reference number 2083 15/04/21. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

In a separate incident on Tuesday night, another man was shooting in the Bogside in both legs after a masked gang entered his flat.
