Dangerous car found on the A1

When police inspected a car driven by a Lisburn man they found two of the tyres were making contact with the suspension.

Ryan McCahon (20), Glen Court, Lisburn, was fined £250 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for using a vehicle which was in a dangerous condition.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on January 26 this year at approximately 11pm police saw a car with its hazard lights flashing on the A1 dual carriageway.Due to its condition police seized the car and an inspection revealed that two bald tyres on the vehicle were making contact with the suspension. The back box of the exhaust had been cut off.

McCahon said he was aware of the exhaust and bad tyres but did not know they were in contact with the suspension or how bad of condition the car was in.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had purchased the vehicle and taken it for a short ride. McCahon accepted he should not have taken the vehicle out.
