Disorderly behaviour leads to day in court

In the dock was Mark Anthony Bell (34), whose address on Court papers was given as Lodge Road, Coleraine.

The defendant pleaded guilty to a charge of exhibiting disorderly behaviour on May 10.

The Magistrates Court was told that police were alerted to a fight outside the Ice Wharf on the Strand Road.

On arrival at the scene, the court heard that Bell was seen throwing a number of punches at another man.

It transpired that his girlfriend was also involved in the scuffle which took place.

The prosecution told the court that none of the injured parties in the incident had made a statement of complaint about Bell and his behaviour.

However, the court was told that there was CCTV evidence available. It was arising out of this that the 34-year-old was charged with conducting himself in disorderly fashion in a pubic place.

The court hears that a second man was also arrested at the scene, but he had received an adult caution.

Ciaran Roddy, defence counsel for Bell, said his client has an extensive record.

He said Bell was currently serving a custodial sentence for other offences and he was not due for release until May next year.

On hearing the evidence against Bell, District Judge Barney McElholm jailed the defendant for three months and made it concurrent to the other sentence.
