Driver’s phone use led to suspicion of alcohol detection in Ballyclare

A motorist has been breathalysed after being detected using a phone behind the wheel of a vehicle in Ballyclare this morning (Thursday).

The driver now faces a court appearance and possible loss of employment as a result of the incident, police say.

PSNI Antrim and Newtownabbey stated: “Police on patrol in Ballyclare observed a motorist using their mobile phone. The motorist was stopped and provided a sample of breath as: 1, they had committed a traffic offence; 2, there was suspicions of alcohol consumption.

“The motorist was arrested, has been charged to court and will lose their driving licence and potentially jeopardise their employment.”

The incident came during Operation Roadsafe, which saw additional patrols in the borough carrying out speed detection, vehicle check points and preliminary breath tests on drivers.
