‘Enforcer’ jailed for drunken knife attack

A Portrush man known in the seaside resort as the “enforcer” has been jailed for a total of four years for wounding a man during a drunken row in August last year.

Antrim Crown Court Judge Geoffrey Miller QC told Craig Bellingham (37) that he would serve at least half of the sentence in prison to be followed by an extended term of four years on parole.

Bellingham, from Eglinton Street, is the second man in a week to be jailed for the attack.

David Sheppard (24), of no fixed address, whose father was murdered when he was nine, was also jailed for four years, but his supervised parole was not extended, and remains at two years.

Last Friday, Judge Miller said Bellingham armed himself with two knives, while Sheppard had some unidentified object, or objects.

The Antrim court heard that the injured party was the victim of an unprovoked attack on August 22, 2010.

He was initially struck in the back by Sheppard, who then hit him over the head before Bellingham later put the two knives to either side of his throat, threatening to kill him.
