Expensive trip to takeway

After he had been drinking a 49-year-old man went to get some food but his erratic driving attracted the attention of an off duty police officer.

Brian Elvis Samuel Wallace, Brookehill, Lurgan, was banned from driving for 12 months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He was also fined £350 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy for driving with excess alcohol in his breath on October 28 this year.

The court heard that at 10.55pm an off duty police officer on the Banbridge Road in Lurgan noticed a car being driven erratically.

It parked at Moore’s Lane and the driver went into a takeaway.

When police arrived they found that Wallace was clearly intoxicated and he failed a preliminary breath test. An evidential test gave a reading of 89.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said that Wallace had been out with friends earlier in the evening and foolishly took the car.
