FACEBOOK PUNCH UP

TWO adults were arrested after they joined in a fight between teenage girls that had been organised on Facebook.

It’s believed the brawl took place in Beaumont Square on Monday night between teenage girls from two local families.

A sizeable crowd had gathered, despite the rain, to watch the fight which the ‘MAIL’ understands had been arranged and ‘promoted’ on Facebook and by other means of social networking.

It’s believed two adults joined in the fracas during which a teenage girl and boy were injured.

Police confirmed they arrested a 51-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man following an assault on a 14-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy in the Shankill estate at around 8.15pm on Monday. Both have been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Police are investigating one line of enquiry that the incident may have been organised via a social networking site.

They reminded people that organising criminal activity like this is an offence. The PSNI will be working proactively with local schools to address this issue.
