Families evacuated in security alert
SEVERAL families have been evacuated from their homes in Londonderry city centre following the discovery of a suspicious object.
The PSNI have cordoned off Hawkin Street off Carlisle Road after the discovery of the object and several commerical premises in the area have also been evacuated. Police at the scene said they were alerted to the area shortly after 12 noon. Army Technical Officers have been deployed to the scene. Traffic on Carlisle Road, John Street and Craigavon Bridge is currently flowing but the area may be blocked off as the situation develops.
