Around £1,000 worth of stolen items has been retrieved by police at one retail park in Cookstown alone.

Yesterday police said they caught ‘another sticky fingered thief’.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Pro active staff and our crews out on patrol in town ensured this individual was stopped and detained before they disappeared off with over £300 worth of items.

“Intentional walking out of shops with trolleys loaded with goods is not uncommon. If you work in or manage a shop be very alert to it.

“This is the fifth arrest in this retail park in recent weeks with almost a £1000 of stolen items retrieved.

“Cookstown Neighbourhood Officers are regularly on patrol on foot around the town. As part of Op Season’s Greetings over the Christmas period there are additional patrols.

“If you see shoplifters in stores call us immediately.

“If you attempt to steal in these shops expect to be caught and spend an evening in the cells then head off to see a Judge.

“These individuals are often from outside the targeted area, so be aware of criminals that travel.”
