Cookstown PSNI Inspector Hazel Moucka urged drivers to adhere to speed restrictions, particularly now that schools are back.

Inspector Moucka said: “I would again urge drivers to heed speed restriction signs and to give consideration to other factors including their location and stopping distances.

“When you consider that travelling at 30 miles per hour the typical stopping distance is 23 metres or six car lengths the consequences of a child running out on this occasion would have been disastrous.

“We have been addressing a number of areas where the community is highlighting speed as a concern and the fact that those drivers were detected in the vicinity of a primary school highlights the need for this type of activity by our officers.”
