Footballers urged to respect Guildhall

Young people playing football close to the Guildhall in Londonderry are being asked to take care they do not cause damage to the historic building.

Sergeant Cathal Pearce, of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said that in recent times several windows of the Guildhall had been damaged.

“Given their style and age, the cost of repairs to the windows can be considerable,” he said.

“Damage has been caused as a result of football being played in the square in the early evenings and at school holiday times.

“This is something police will be paying attention to at the relevant times.

“We will also seek to identify and prosecute offences of criminal damage.”
