Two men, aged 25 and 22, were arrested on Sunday, November 6, on suspicion of burglary and other offences after an incident in the Foyle area.

A PSNI spokesman said that shortly before 4.55pm, it was reported that a vehicle which was involved in a previous hit and run road traffic collision at the Craigavon Bridge, Foyle at around 4.30pm was located in the Baldrick Crescent area. It was reported that the car struck a police vehicle at the junction of Eden Terrace and Northland Road during the incident. The car was then stopped and two males were arrested.

“As the vehicle was apprehended in the area, police discovered a School’s GAA Trophy in the boot of the car. The owner of the trophy was contacted by police and the trophy is to be returned to its rightful owner,” the PSNI spokesman said.

“Police believe the incident was linked to a creeper burglary at residential premises in the Orchardville Avenue area, South Belfast area on Sunday, November 6, shortly before midday. It was reported that a car was stolen from a house in the area. This is believed to be the same car involved in the incident at the Baldrick Crescent, Foyle area,” he said.

G DISTRICT Commander Chief Superintendent Stephen Martin said: “This was a policing operation that started in South Belfast and ended in Foyle, with two men being arrested for burglary and motoring offences. The officers involved demonstrated a thoroughly professional approach in apprehending those involved, while keeping residents safe during the incident.

“It is extremely rewarding to be in the position to reunite a member of the public with their posessions. I am sure those involved in this year’s McLernon Cup competition will be delighted to see it on display on St.Patrick’s Day.”
