Giving friend a lift leads to ban

GIVING a friend a life home led to a Lurgan man getting a 13 month driving ban last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Thirty two year old Ciaran McEvoy, of Cornakinnegar Road, Lurgan, was also fined £30 for driving with excess alcohol on June 8.

On completion of a course for drinking driving his ban would be reduced by three months. He was ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard he was stopped at a vehicle checkpoint in Church Place and there was a smell of alcohol on his breath.

An evidential breath test gave a reading of 75. McEvoy told police: “I’ve lost my job now.”

His solicitor said that he had been on a night out and sensibly took a taxi home but then he foolishly decided to give his friend a lift home which was two miles away.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said the reading was more than twice the limit.
