The incident was detected during extra patrols conducted by Glengormley Neighbourhood Policing Team last night.

A PSNI Antrim and Newtownabbey spokesperson commented: “We took this opportunity to conduct some roadside breath tests at authorised check-points around Newtownabbey. Thankfully all drivers we stopped and tested on the Antrim Road provided a reading of zero.

However, in the time it took us to travel from the Antrim Road to the Ballyclare Road we sighted a vehicle which pulled out of Glenvarna Drive and mounted the pavement, it then swerved onto the wrong side of the road.

“This vehicle was stopped and the driver spoken to. They were subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.”
