A police spokesperson said PSNI detectives are seeking information following the shooting incident, which took place in the Hass Park area of Dungiven shortly after 10pm last night (Monday, September 29, 2014).

It was reported that a man wearing a hooded top fired two shots at a parked car which had no-one inside at around 10.10pm. It is believed the man then left the area in a car which had been parked a short distance away.

SDLP Councillor Michael Coyle, who lives in Dungiven, said: “This was a completely reckless attack in a quiet residential area, and it is extremely worrying for people who live there, and indeed everyone in the area.

“Thankfully, no one was injured in this madness. Whoever is behind the attack must realise they have absolutely nothing to offer society and there can be no justification whatsoever for what happened.

“I appeal to anyone who knows anything about the incident to contact police.”

Chief inspector Alan Hutton appealed for anyone with any information or anyone who witnessed this incident to contact CID in Limavady on 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
