Inspector issues car crime prevention advice

PSNI Neighbourhood Inspector, Ian Armourm, is advising car owners to take appropriate steps to keep their vehicles secure.

This follows several recent incidents of thefts from unsecure parked cars while their owners were at home.

Inspector Armour goes on to say: “Simple precautions can help ensure that your valuables and your car will be kept safe:

“Motorists should always make sure their vehicle is properly locked and secured, even if leaving it for a very short time.

“Expensive items, such as sat navs or stereos, should not be left on display in your car. Put them out of sight or even take them with you while you are away from your car.

“Do not leave purchases or shopping bags on display in your car. If a thief sees something of value sitting in your car then they will break in to get it.

“Improved car security features such as alarms, immobilisers and tracking devices can also help protect your vehicle and your valuables.

“Should an unsecure vehicle be stolen the owner is very likely to face difficulties in relation to insurance cover.”

“Remember - always lock your car when leaving it unattended.”
