Items seized

Police have seized a substantial quantity of counterfeit goods whilst on foot patrol in Londonderry City Centre last month.

A large quantity of fake designer clothes was seized from a market stall at the City Walls. Following examination, it has been confirmed the goods are counterfeit and have been valued at approximately £20,000.

The haul included items such as fake Ralph Lauren trainers, Hollister tops, Abercrombie Fitch and Superdry T-shirts. A vehicle was also seized.

Inspector Jon Burrows said, “These goods appear genuine but in reality customers are buying cheap imitations.”

“These fake goods make quick profits for criminals but end up causing damage to local legitimate businesses who are working hard to keep their shops open and give people jobs. Fake items may appear attractive but profits from them find their way into organised crime gangs involved in drugs supply, human trafficking and terrorism.”

“Police are committed to creating an environment in Northern Ireland which supports legitimate traders and brings the full force of the law to bear on those criminals dealing in counterfeit goods.”
