Judge says spitting is disgusting assault

A 23-year-old man has been fined at Craigavon Magistrates Court after spitting at police.

Kyle Kane from The Olde Golf Links, Portadown was accused of assaulting a police constable on May 6 this year.

Deputy Judge Neil Rafferty asked, at last Wednesday’s sitting, the nature of the assault, the court heard Kane had spat at the officer.

Kane’s defence lawyer said his client had seen red and took it out on the officer.

Judge Rafferty said: “Spitting is a disgusting form of assault.” He fined Kane £250 and ordered him to pay a £15 Offenders’s Levy.
