Jumped against shutters of travel agency

A drunken man who jumped against the shutters of a travel agency in Lurgan was fined £125 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for attempted criminal damage.

Twenty two year old Pearse McGilly, of Ashgrove Crescent, Craigavon, was also fined £125 for disorderly behaviour on May 12 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that a police mobile patrol in Market Street, Lurgan, at 12.30am saw the defendant run at the shutters of Terra Travel and kick them with such force that he bounced off them and fell to the ground.

He tried to run at them again but was restrained by police. He was asked for his details and told them to ‘f- off.’

When warned about his behaviour he said: “F- off, I’m not telling you a f--king thing” and “F-- off you w---r.”

In the police car McGilly calmed down and apologised. There was no damage to the shutters.

A solicitor for the defendant said he was heavily intoxicated and remembered very little apart from being in the police car. He had been out drinking with friends.
