Kate speaks of relief at guilty verdicts

BRAVE police widow Kate Carroll has spoken of her relief following the conviction of two men for the murder of her husband Constable Stephen Carroll three years ago.

The Banbridge mother said the two-month trial has been gruelling but worth it to see her beloved partner’s killers brought to justice.

“If I had to do it all again I would,” she told the Leader as she recalled coming face-to-face with the men who stole her husband from her.

In an exclusive interview Kate reveals:

- Her sympathy for the parents of 40-year-old killer Brendan McConville who “through no fault of their own” have now lost a son

- Her hopes that the imprisonment of John Paul Wootton, who was 17 at the time of the killing, will send a strong message to young people who might get caught up in violence

- Her plans to write a book inspired by her experiences from the devastating moment she heard of Stephen’s death to the judge’s verdict in last week’s trial.
