Keep gifts out of sight

Police are urging the public to keep Christmas presents and valuables out of sight in homes and vehicles in the run up to Christmas.

Thieves are well aware that houses are laden with presents at this time of the year so it is important to keep these items well out of sight and properly concealed. Burglars are looking for easy targets and everyone is asked to make it difficult for them by protecting homes, vehicles and property.

Ensure all windows and doors are locked and keep presents out of view at all times, especially at night and when you are out. If you are away from home, make sure all windows and doors are locked and leave a light on or use timer switches to activate lights or TV.

Area Commander, Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said, “Thieves are looking for their next easy target. If you leave gifts or valuables in your car, it is too great a temptation for these criminals to resist. If you leave presents in full view in your homes, burglars will try and get in.

“I am asking everyone to think about protecting their property and prevent thieves from spoiling your Christmas. Always be mindful of your security and follow the basic crime prevention measures. Keep Valuables out of sight and Always Lock Doors.”

Police are asking anyone who notices suspicious activity to call Police immediately.
