The court heard that on June 29 last year police received a report of an accident involving a pedestrian and a mobility scooter in Edward Street, Lurgan. The victim had been hit on the rear by the scooter while on the footpath.

McAlinden made a full admission to police saying he didn’t see the injured party because he had been looking at his watch.

Mr Pat McMahon said his client was driving a scooter with a cellophane roof, it was raining and there were no wipers on the vehicle. He added that the victim was a man around 70 years of age and he suffered a broken wrist.

Mr McMahon said the defendant had an atrocious record until about five years ago. He had been advised he cannot drive.
