Larne bingo hall blaze ‘not suspicious’, police confirm

A fire at a business premises in Larne at the weekend is not being treated as suspicious by police.

The blaze broke out at a bingo hall in Laharna Retail Park on the Circular Road. A member of the public alerted the NI Fire and Rescue Service shortly before 4am.

Eight pumping appliances and a command unit attended the scene along with about 50 firefighters, with crews from Larne, Ballyclare, Whitehead, Carrickfergus and Lisburn.

The incident was dealt with at around 8.20am and the cause is thought to have been accidental.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for information following an assault that occurred in the Main Street area of Larne, also in the early hours of Sunday.

At about 1.40am, it was reported that a woman, aged in her 20s, was assaulted by three or four females.

She later attended hospital for treatment to her injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

Finally, on Sunday morning, police in Larne carried out two searches under the Proceeds of Crime Act as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation.

A number of items were seized for further examination from a business premises on Bridge Street.
