Larne fire treated as ‘deliberate’

Police are appealing for information following a car fire in the Wyncairn Road area of Larne.

Two fire appliances from Larne Fire Station were tasked to the scene shortly after 9pm on Thursday (February 11).

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a car on fire. The car was well alight when firefighters arrived. They used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and the incident was dealt with by 9.49pm.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate ignition.”

Appealing for information, a PSNI spokesperson said: “At around 9.10pm, it was reported that a silver Mercedes was on fire in the area. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service who were in attendance , extinguished the fire.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police would appeal to anyone with any information to contact them in Larne on 101, quoting reference number 1693 11/02/21.”
