A police spokesperson said: “Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch investigating the discovery of a substantial cannabis factory in Limavady yesterday, Wednesday 16 March, when herbal cannabis with an estimated value of £125,000 was seized along with other drugs paraphernalia have arrested a 24 year old man.

“He was arrested this morning, Thursday 17 March, on suspicion of conspiracy to cultivate cannabis and doing an act capable of encouraging or assisting the commission of one of more offences contrary to Section 46 of the Serious Crime Act and is currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

Two men, aged 46 and 53, who were arrested yesterday remain in police custody at this time.”

Sinn Féin councillor and local Policing and Community Safety Partnership member Brenda Chivers has welcomed the seizure.

Councillor Chivers said: “I am pleased that this factory has been put out of operation and arrests have been made, the people who sell these drugs have no consideration for the impact it is having on the people who use them and their families. I would appeal to anyone with any information to bring it to the police so they can continue to protect our communities from the scourge of drugs.”

Her party colleague, Cathal Ó hOisín MLA, added: “While this successful seizure is to be welcomed it is also important to care for those who are addicted to various drugs by providing funding for the various groups who are working hard to help these people get their lives back on track.”
