At CAFRE Loughry Campus, not only are courses designed with a strong practical element, but all students have the opportunity to undertake a work placement and Rockvale Poultry is one of the many food companies who link up with Loughry every year to offer excellent placement opportunities.

Cara Hunter and Catherine Wright, second year National Diploma students, spent three months at the company, not only learning about processing methods, but also gaining insight into quality control testing and new product development. Meanwhile three honours degree students, Katherine Willis, Samuel McBride and Alex King, were topping up on their work experience, whilst also giving their CVs a massive boost.

Such experience develops the student’s all round skills so that they can hit the ground running in the fast moving environment of the food industry when they graduate.

Cara says: “I enjoyed every single day of my work placement. It was great to be able to put theory from the classroom into context experience how a progressive company like this operates. Many thanks to Rockvale Poultry for offering me this excellent learning experience!”
