Lurgan security alert declared a hoax

THE security alert at Bell’s Row, Lurgan, has now ended. ATO were in attendance and have declared the device as a hoax.

Bell’s Row and Lake Street have been reopened for traffic. The train line will remain closed for the time being.

Evacuated residents are now able to return to their homes and police in Lurgan would like to extend their thanks to them, as well as the whole town, for their patience and co-operation while this incident was dealt with.

At around 1.30am this morning (Friday, May 4) police were informed that a device had been left on the railway line.

ATO have been tasked and trains have been stopped.

A number of local residents had been evacuated with a nearby leisure centre opened for their use - although the ‘MAIL’ understands the facility was not used as residents stayed with friends instead.
