Made offensive gesture to police

A Craigavon man who made an offensive gesture to police was fined £125 last Friday at the local court for disorderly behaviour on June 3 this year.

Forty five year old Roderick Samuel Lutton, of Aldervale, Craigavon, was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard the defendant was drinking with friends at Aldervale and sitting on a wall. He made an offensive gesture when he saw a police car.

He started to shout and swear and refused to give his name and address.

Mr Brendan Hagan, representing the defendant, said Lutton accepted there was a verbal confrontation.

He added that the defendant would say there was a history of friction between him and the officer who, he claimed, was acting in a provocative manner towards the defendant.

Imposing the fine District Judge, Mr Alan White, said it was a long time since Lutton had been before a court.
