In a statement on Wednesday, the PSNI said during the pursuit, the rider performed two ‘wheelies’, narrowly missed colliding with another road-user and drove round a roundabout in the wrong direction.

The incident began at around 12.15am in the Portadown Road area. Police said they spotted a grey Husqvarna motorcycle with no vehicle registration driving dangerously.

"Officers followed the motorcycle and located it parked on the Old Portadown Road. When the driver spotted police, however, he subsequently made off,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

"Police signalled for him to stop, but the driver accelerated harshly in an attempt to evade officers, performing two ‘wheelies’ before making off in excess of 90mph.

"He then failed to give way at a road junction, narrowly avoiding a collision with another road-user, before accelerating in excess of 80mph and driving the wrong way around a roundabout.

"As a result, the driver entered Brownlow Road on the wrong side of the road, then drove onto the footpath and grass verge before abandoning the motorcycle and making off on foot.

"Officers commenced a foot pursuit, which went through a river and grass area before the 21-year-old was apprehended in the Ardowen area.”

Police added he resisted officers but was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences. The motorcycle was also seized.
