Man (44)attacked during attempted armed robbery

DETECTIVES in Coleraine are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery of a property in the outskirts of the town on Sunday evening.

Around 8pm the 44-year-old owner of the property answered a knock on his door and was confronted by two unknown men who had their faces covered.

They pushed him inside the house and threatened him with what appeared to be a handgun asking him for money. The victim was hit over the head with the weapon but managed to get out of the house and alert a neighbour.

The robbers made off in the direction of Coleraine centre in a red coloured Ford KA.

The householder received treatment for a cut to his head but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
