Man arrested in connection with Andrew Allen murder released

A MAN from Northern Ireland was quizzed by police investigating the murder of Andrew Allen in Donegal earlier this year and later released.

The man who is in his 50s was taken into custody on Friday morning (April 6) and was held at Buncrana garda station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Mr Allen, 24, was shot dead at a house in the Links View Park area of Buncrana on February 9 when two gunmen fired shots through a downstairs bedroom window.

The victim was originally from the Waterside area of Londonderry, and had left the city last year after his was one of six names on a list accompanied by two bullets sent to a community group in the Gobnascale area.

It was suspected that a silver Vauxhall Cavalier car, found burnt out a short time after the shooting, was used in the incident.

Mr Allen’s partner was also in the house at the time of the murder; she was not injured and, with the help of neighbours, fought in vain to save his life.

The house was owned by his partner’s sister.

The murder sparked outrage in Londonderry and several hundred people attended a demonstration in the Gobnascale area to protest against his killing.

Police later said the man had been released and a file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions,
