Man charged after Londonderry raids against New IRA bomb-making capabilities

The operation took place on Thursday in the Creggan area of west Londonderry city, and during the operation police faced street disorder from youths, and confrontation from members of the public.

The PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch head, Detective Chief Superintendent Raymond Murray, said tonight that the 52-year-old who was arrested yesterday has now been charged.

His charges “include preparatory acts of terrorism, possession of explosives with intent and possession of articles likely to be of use to terrorists”.

The searches were part of Operation Ledging, which in turn is part of the bigger Operation Arbacia, looking specifically at the New IRA.

The accused it due to appear in Laganside Court, Belfast, tomorrow at 10am.
