Man charged with possessing offensive weapons in Cookstown

A man has been arrested and charged with two counts of possessing an offensive weapon following an incident in Cookstown on Saturday night.

Police released information about the 22-year-old's arrest on Facebook, thanking "quick thinking" local business staff and members of the public for their help in relation to the 8.50pm report.

They said: "During an incident last night (Saturday) at the junction of Chapel Street and Fountain Road, Police on patrol in Cemetery Road were able to immediately intervene and arrest a 26-yr-old (he was 22) male. "Following investigation the male has been charged this morning with a number of offences, including two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.

"Police would like to thank the quick thinking of local business staff and the assistance of members of the public last night."

They later told the Mail: "On Saturday, 18 March at 8.50 pm police in Cookstown responded to reports of a 22-year-old male possessing offensive weapons.

"The man has since been charged in relation to this incident and will appear at Dungannon Magistrates Court in April."
