Man due in court after laser shone at police aircraft over Newtownabbey

A man is due to appear in court after a laser was shone at a police aircraft in the Newtownabbey area last night (Thursday).

Detailing the incident, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police investigating an incident where a laser was shone at a police aircraft in Newtownabbey yesterday evening (June 16), have charged a 59-year-old man with endangering the safety of an aircraft and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

“He is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on July 8.

“As is normal procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”

The incident took place on June 16.
