Man due in court after £50K of suspected heroin found in NI town

A 53-year-old man is due in court this morning after the PSNI recovered a ‘substantial amount of suspected heroin’.

It follows a police search of a house in the Park Road area of Portadown yesterday (April 28).

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police have charged a 53 year old man with possession of a class A drug, possession of a class A drug with intent to supply and possession of a class C drug.

“He is due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 29th April. As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS.

“The charges follow the search of a house in the Park Road area of Portadown on Wednesday 28th April, in which a substantial amount of suspected heroin was recovered.”

On Wednesday evening 28 April we conducted a warranted search of a dwelling in Park Road, Portadown.

Writing on Facebook, police said: “As a result of this we seized suspected Class A drugs, Heroin and Cocaine, along with a small amount of Class C drugs.

“The Class A drugs have an estimated street value of approximately £50,000.

“One male was arrested at the scene and he is charged and appearing at court today, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

“The removal of these drugs from circulation is a positive result for us but we would take this opportunity to thank you, the public, without whom these things would not happen.
