Man fined following Ballela deaths

A MAN has been fined in relation to the deaths of two farm workers in Ballela in 2005.

Robert Wilson (21) and 33-year-old Kenneth Blair died after a massive slurry container burst open at the farm. They were pumping waste from a tanker at the time and were hit by thousands of gallons of waste when the accident happened.

Their bodies were recovered by a specialist rescue team when someone dialled one of their phones.

Contractor Trevor Moore (53) from the Townhill Road in Rasharkin was given three years to pay the £3,000 fine for failing to carry out a number of safety procedures.
