Police had issued an appeal on Monday after Christopher was last seen in the Promenade area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Local people have been leaving flowers in the area near the hotel on the town’s promenade.

Part of Church Street was sealed off and forensic experts continued their examination on Tuesday.

Portstewart alderman Maura Hickey said the reaction of the community was one of “shock and horror”.

“It is tragic that any family in the run-up to Christmas should find themselves with the loss of a young member at this particular time,” she said.
